11 Simple Ways To Tighten Loose/Sagging Skin Under The Eyes

If you have ever wondered how you can tighten loose or sagging skin under or around your eyes, there are simple ways you can do that. Facial exercises, anti-ageing creams, and cosmetic procedures can all help tighten the loose skin on, under, or around your eyelids. You do not need too much to do this and so I have gathered some things you can try to help tighten sagging skin under the eyes based on what a lot of people have tried and gotten results.

Here are simple home remedies you can use to plump and tighten under-eye skin without going through surgery or any expensive procedure:

  1. Use an astringent under the eyes
  2. Place cucumbers under the eyes
  3. Use Potatoes
  4. Try baking soda
  5. Use egg whites
  6. Drink lots of water
  7. Massaging the under-eye area
  8. Wear sunscreen daily
  9. Use good under-eye patches
  10. Go for under-eye creams with natural ingredients
  11. Use your creams cold

  1. Use An Astringent Under Your Eyes:

For quick results, use an astringent on your under-eye area daily. Astringents are applied to the surface of your skin, and they naturally keep your skin tight. They also tighten pores and control oil. For a natural astringent, use a parsley and peppermint astringent recipe or use salicylic acid, lemon juice, or witch hazel. Lemon juice can lighten your skin, so you have to use it with caution.

  1. Use Cucumbers:

Cucumbers naturally tighten and firm under-eye skin. The juice can also refresh your skin and tighten pores. Use this on puffy under-eye areas and fine lines around your eyes or anywhere on your face.

You can also wash, peel, and grind half of a cucumber. Squeeze out the juice and apply it to problem areas.  Let it dry before rinsing with plain water. You can also use a cooling cucumber tonic recipe daily or a cucumber moisturizing mask like this Creme Shop Cucumber Moisturizing Face Mask once a week.

  1. Use Potatoes:

Did you know that potatoes are rich in catecholase compounds, antioxidant properties with anti-inflammatory and astringent elements? All these are great components that are sure to tighten our skin cells, reduce swelling, lessen the water retention under the eyes, and brighten the under-eye area effectively. Grab a potato from your kitchen, peel off the back and grate the insides finely before applying it around your eyes. Leave it for 20 minutes or until you feel a stretchy feeling under your eyes before rinsing it off. Alternatively, you can blend and squeeze out the juice to apply around your eyes for the same 20 minutes. This will greatly help with under-eye puffiness.

  1. Try Baking Soda:

Baking soda naturally tightens the skin under the eyes. Baking soda not only cleans your house, but it also improves your skin.  It naturally scrubs and tightens your skin by sloughing off dead skin cells. Make a paste with baking soda and water and spread on your under-eye area or your entire face. Let it dry and rinse well.

  1. Use Egg Whites:

This can be used to firm the skin under your eyes. The egg white is another great natural product to tighten the skin under the eyes. Apply just the egg white to your puffy eye areas and wash after 15 minutes. Or you can mix a few drops of lemon juice with the egg white and beat until frothy then apply.  This is also great for your neck and all over your face. You just let it dry for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

  1. Drink Lots Of Water:

Naturally, when you get dehydrated your skin will not look as good as it should.  Try to drink 8 to 10 8-ounce glasses of water every day to stay hydrated.  Not only does water help keep your skin firm, but it also flushes toxins from your body reducing under-eye circles.

  1. Massaging The Under Eye Area:

Massaging helps increase circulation, which decreases puffiness and saggy skin. Always massage problem areas daily with aloe vera gel to moisturize and tighten your skin. Alternatively, you can use an eye massager. I will recommend this RENPHO Eye Massager. It is a handy tool that can help in relieving eye strain, eye puffiness, dry eyes, and dark circles to give you a more youthful look at the end. It is also very effective to effectively help you get refreshed after a long day.

  1. Wear Sunscreen Daily:

The sun can cause premature ageing and wrinkles, so use sunscreen every day.  Even in the winter or on cloudy days, the sun can cause serious damage, which causes your skin to sag and wrinkle. Wearing SPF 30 or higher every day can help reduce skin sagging and prevent loose skin around the eyes. Best of all, you can use sunscreens that are specially made for the under-eye area. One of such is this Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy which is an anti-ageing eye cream with an all-mineral SPF that improves dark circles, puffiness, fine lines & wrinkles around the eyes.

  1. Use Good Under-eye Patches:

Even though eye puffiness and dark circles can be a nightmare to get rid of, under-eye patches can still come in very handy thanks to the combination of cooling texture and potent ingredients. Eye patches can re-hydrate dry under-eye skin, it can reduce wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness, and also keep your under-eyes feeling refreshed and supple always. They are designed to regenerate and tone tired, stressed skin, and are very good options when you are dealing with loose or sagging eyes. If you are looking for the best, I recommend this PTR Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. It comes in 3 varieties for you to choose from (24k gold, cucumber, and water drench) and it greatly helps smooth the look of fine lines, de-puff the look of the eye area and diminish the appearance of dark circles.

  1. Go For Eye Creams With Natural ingredients:

This can prevent saggy skin under the eyes too. It’s best to use these even before you can have saggy skin to prevent it. Even if your skin is great now, get in the habit of using an eye cream with these great ingredients to help maintain that firm and beautiful look. Go for an eye cream with shea butter, vitamin E, grape seed oil, avocado oil, vitamin C, or jojoba oil. All of these natural ingredients will help keep your under-eye skin looking great, smooth, and firm.

  1. Use your creams cold:

Whichever eye cream or regular face cream you choose to buy and start using, store it in your fridge.  You are doing this because the cold will always help to reduce puffiness on your face (especially under-eyes) when applied.  If you even get your eye cream alongside the metal applicator that comes with it, that would be great to reduce puffiness too.

What Causes Sagging or Loose Skin Under The Eyes?

There are a lot of things that are said to be the cause of sagging or loose skin around the eyes. Some are true while some are just myths that aren’t proven to be true. If you have loose skin under your eyes, you do not have to worry your head too much trying to think about what you have done in the past to cause your under-eye skin to go loose.

Most times, genetics, ageing and photodamage can contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. And this can result in having wrinkles, fine lines, crows feet and loose skin to form under your eyes.

Some major things can cause the skin to sag and they are:

  • Fluid retention
  • Ageing
  • Chronic medical conditions
  • Infections
  • Allergies
  • Stress
  • Eye fatigue
  • Smoking
  • Lack of sleep
  • Inherited features
  • Lower collagen levels. This can cause the skin to lose elasticity and this will mostly show ain places where the skin is thin like the eyes.

Have it in mind that it is only when you know what caused your under-eye skin to sag, that you would know the best solution to it. For instance, if yours is caused by stress or lack of sleep, of course, you have to work on managing your stress and sleeping more if you ever want the creams (or other methods) you use to work permanently.

Skin Exercise That Can Tighten Under-eyes Naturally

Can exercise reduce under-eye bags? This question is on the lips of many and it is obvious why. Some people do not want to go through some rigorous remedy to tighten their under-eyes. Some do not want to try creams. And some simply want to try a few exercise moves when doing their daily exercise and not worry about their under-eyes skin too much.

The truth is that physical exercise can help your body maintain strength and flexibility, and this, in turn, can also be used to strengthen the muscles around your eyes. It is almost common knowledge that the eyelids are part of a ring of muscle tissues that control eyelid movement. So, doing exercises that target the eyes can help the skin around it. To maintain this and keep it firm always, here are a few exercises I can recommend:

  • Reduce puffiness by using your ring finger to gently tap under the eye. Move inwards towards the inner corner of the eye, move under your eyebrow and towards the outer edge of your eye, and then move back round under your eye. Continue tapping gently around this area for a few minutes to help reduce puffiness around your eyes.
  • Try squinting your lower lids by gently placing your index fingers on the outer corners of your eyes and your middle fingers on the inner corners; then raise your lower lids up and down. You can do this a few times a day to help strengthen your eyelids and reduce sagging around the eyes.
  • Practice the lower lid elevator by putting your index finger on your lower lids and lifting the weight of that finger only through the muscle power of your lower lid, without wrinkling your eyebrows. You can do this exercise 20 -25 times at a go, and twice a day to get the best results.
  • Lower lid lifting can also come in handy. Here, you place three middle fingers of both of your hands under your eyes and pull your lower lids down towards the top of your cheekbones. Then, at the same time, you can contract the muscle by trying to close the lower lids against the force of your finger. Do this exercise 10 times at once and twice a day to get rid of puffiness hanging around your eyes.
How to temporarily hide/cover your sagging skin or dark under-eye bags/circle with makeup

While you are waiting for the method(s) you use to tighten your under-eyes to start showing permanent results, you can still use makeup as a temporary measure. You can use makeup to hide them successfully, especially on days when you need to go out without showing the world your sagging skin or dark under-eyes. Here is a simple process on how to apply makeup to hide your dark circles, bags or loose skin under the eyes:

  • When you have finished your usual face treatment that includes cleansing, moisturizing and the likes; wait for a few minutes to allow all the products get into your skin properly and start function.
  • Next, apply your eye cream and still wait for a few minutes to let it get into your skin without distraction. This is a compulsory step because if you skip it, anything else you add to the area will only make it appear worse.
  • Use the correct colour corrector to cover up any obvious colour. You can check here to see a complete list of the right corrector to cancel a skin discolouration.
  • Get the perfect shade of concealer (preferably liquid and a shade lighter) for your skin and apply it on your under-eye area. Ensure you apply it right on top of the dark circles/bags and dab properly over the loose skin before going below the bags in a triangle shape towards the cheekbones. Be sure to be generous with the concealer so that you will have it properly covered, but don’t go overboard.
  • A subtle pink highlighter applied to the inner and outer corners of your eyes can help draw attention away from the under-eye..
  • Lastly, use a good under-eye loose powder to set the makeup and complete the look.
  • You can choose to go ahead with the rest of your face makeup if you still want to. Just be sure to avoid the under-eye area.

  1. Do you mind if I quote a few of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your blog? My blog is in the very same area of interest as yours and my users would genuinely benefit from some of the information you present here. Please let me know if this okay with you. Thank you!

  2. I use Cerave. Works fast for my skin but no progress for my sis. I guess most of these depends on the skin of the user too.

  3. Sometimes I feel it does not matter which eye cream you use.

If you are consistent with anyone you choose (which must contain safe ingredients) and you improve on your lifestyle, you are good.

  4. Very useful. With age, my skin is getting loose and that of my eyes looks worse. I do some of these and the improvements are so obvious right now I can totally recommend it to others.

  5. Placing slices of cucumber on your eyes while lying face up works very well to reduce eye circles.
I use the technique and it delivers just fine.
